At closed meeting, VR Committee on National Security discussed provision to expand "combat immunity" - Friz
Today, on January 27, at a closed meeting, the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence heard reports from the defense of Generals Artur Horbenko, Yurii Halushkin and Colonel Dmytro Riumshyn and discussed issues that allow obtaining comprehensive information about these trials.
This was stated by People's Deputy Iryna Friz, Censor.NET reports.
"During the meeting, the committee members constantly emphasized that the entire process should take place in accordance with the current legislation and with great respect for our military. Despite the invitation to the meeting, the military ombudsman, who needed to go on a business trip, did not attend the meeting. I consider such an attitude to a meeting of a specialized parliamentary committee absurd, given the position she holds," she said.
Friz noted that the Committee's previous statement regarding the selectivity of legislation and the excessive application of preventive measures to combat officers is consistent with the grounds mentioned.
Thus, following the discussion, the Committee is sending additional requests to law enforcement agencies.
"The members of the Committee discussed the need to amend the article of the Criminal Code on "combat immunity" in order to expand and specify it. This is necessary for its professional application in the legal field," the deputy said.
"I also consider the lawyers' proposal to establish a Temporary Investigation Commission of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to consider issues related to the prosecution of military personnel under martial law to be appropriate," summarizes Friz.
