The Security Service of Ukraine jointly with the National Police prevented a terrorist act against Ukrainian law enforcement officers, planned by agents of Russian special services in Bukovyna.
This was reported by Censor.NET with reference to the SSU press centre.
As noted, two local young men had planted explosives in an abandoned building and were going to remotely activate them when the police entered the building after a call to the 102 line.
According to the operative data, the perpetrators were 17- and 18-year-old local drug dealers who were recruited through pro-Russian telegram channels. After remote contact with the handlers, they received detailed instructions on how to make an improvised explosive device (IED) and its location.
It turned out that the IED was placed in a garbage bag, and a juice box was left nearby, where a mobile phone with a camera recording the entrance to the premise was hidden. The explosives were rigged with self-tapping screws for maximum damage.
The detention took place after the agents had planted the explosives and returned home. During the searches of their homes, the SSU found components for making explosives and mobile phones with evidence of communication with Russian handlers.
The defendants in the case were served suspicion notices under the following articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:
- p. 2 Art. 263-1 - illegal manufacture of an explosive device;
- p. 2, Art. 15, Art. 258 - completed attempted terrorist act.
The offenders are in custody. They face up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
In turn, the deputy head of the National Police, Andrii Nebytov, said that the attack near Chernivtsi was supposed to take place on 1 February. The bomb, made on the order of Russian special services, had already been installed.
"The countdown has begun. It was made by two local young men from the village, aged 17 and 18. The accomplices were involved in drug trafficking: they set up their own drug lab to produce amphetamine, which they sold through a telegram channel throughout Ukraine. Because of this, they came to the attention of the criminal police. While documenting a group of drug dealers, the operatives learned that both were recruited by Russian handlers and were preparing an explosion," Nebytov said.
The victims were to be policemen from the investigative team, who were lured into a trap by a false call of "a woman crying for help", as well as civilians who happened to be nearby.
According to him, the irreparable was prevented thanks to the professional actions of the Chernivtsi police together with the SSU.
"Society must understand that russia is trying to use everyone who is outside the law as a weapon. The war is also going on in the rear, and the fight against criminals is one of its 'fronts'.
These attacks are aimed not only at the physical destruction of the military or law enforcement officers. The main goal of the enemy is to destroy the law enforcement system as a component of the Security and Defence Forces, as well as to spread panic and intimidate people through information and psychological operations (IPSO) and other information injections. In this way, russia hopes to sow distrust in the defenders, divide us and undermine the country's defence capabilities. But I must note that the enemy uses not only traitors and people with deviant behaviour. The basis for the spread of this IPSO, both in real life and in social media, is the most horrible traits of people - HATE, PITY and ENVY," he summed up.
