The SSU and the National Police detained five arsonists who were acting on the orders of Russia in different regions of Ukraine.

This was reported by the press service of the SSU, Censor.NET reports.

Russian special services remotely recruited citizens looking for "easy" money on Telegram channels. The main "targets" were administrative buildings of state institutions, off-road vehicles of the Defence Forces and relay cabinets of Ukrzaliznytsia.

Dnipropetrovsk region

A 40-year-old woman who organised the arson of an Armed Forces pickup truck and 3 relay cabinets on railway lines was detained.

"The woman received the relevant 'orders' via messenger from Russia, and engaged her 17-year-old son and his classmate to carry them out. After "agreeing" on a potential target, the boys would arrive at its location together and set fire to it with a flammable mixture," the statement said.

Rivne

A 17-year-old local college student burned down an Armed Forces vehicle that had been brought to the region for maintenance after performing combat missions at the front.

To commit the crime, the defendant made an incendiary mixture in his dorm room with his own hands.

Khmelnytskyi region

A 34-year-old resident of Shepetivka set fire to the city council building. First, she broke a window on the first floor of the administrative building and then threw a bottle of Molotov cocktail inside. The fire damaged the window sill and the floor in one of the offices of the state institution.

All the detainees have been served a notice of suspicion under several articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:

  • p. 2, Art. 28, Art. 113 (sabotage committed by prior conspiracy by a group of persons under martial law);
  • p. 2, Art. 114-1 (obstruction of the lawful activities of the AFU and other military formations);
  • p. 2 of Art. 194 (intentional destruction or damage to another's property committed by arson).

The offenders face various prison sentences, including life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
