On February 7, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced the alleged capture of the city of Toretsk in Donetsk region, which it called Dzerzhynsk. This information from the enemy is not true.

According to Censor.NET, this was reported by analysts of the DeepState project.

"The information about the enemy's occupation of Toretsk is false – urban battles are ongoing, and the Defense Forces continue to resist the enemy. Once again, delusional news enters our information space (a statement from the Russian Defense Ministry). The Ukrainian Defense Forces continue their defensive operation in Toretsk," analysts noted.

Fighting is taking place in the Zabalka neighborhood, as well as on the northern and western outskirts. However, Russian troops control almost the entire center of Toretsk.

"Unfortunately, people are forced to consume hostile sources due to a lack of trust in their own official ones. The society is still not informed about the loss of Kurakhove and Velyka Novosilka, which raises many questions to those who form the official communication," DeepState added.

What preceded it?

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, Toretsk was allegedly occupied as a result of an offensive by the 1st, 9th and 132nd motorized rifle brigades of the 51st Army of the Russian Armed Forces, as well as the Veterans volunteer group.

According to the Khortytsia OSGT (Operational and Strategic Group of Troops), which was published on the morning of February 7, fighting continues in the city. Thus, the Russian occupiers stormed Ukrainian positions in Toretsk itself.

The fighting for the town has been going on since the summer of 2024.
