In future, Ukraine will not be able to pay for army alone - Scholz
In the future, Kyiv will need the support of Germany and other Western countries to finance the country's army.
According to Censor.NET, with reference to DW, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said this in an interview with the Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland media group.
He called the discussion of Germany's possible participation in a peacekeeping mission in Ukraine "inappropriate and premature".
"It is based on the assumption that Ukraine will not get back part of its territory from Russia. I am very serious when I say that nothing can be resolved without Ukrainians. First, we need an end to the conflict and genuine negotiations, not a dictated peace," Scholz said.
The Chancellor added that what kind of security guarantees Ukraine will receive will be determined only after the end of its defense war against Russia.
"In any case, Ukraine will have an army, which it will not be able to pay for on its own, with its own financial resources. And it will need the support of Germany and "all friends" of Kyiv," Scholz added.
As a reminder, the German Chancellor criticized Donald Trump's demand that Ukraine supply rare earth metals to the United States in exchange for continued support.
