Posing as members of International Legion: Ukrainian-Georgian gang of "house burglars" detained. VIDEO+PHOTOS
A group "specialising" in house burglaries was exposed in Kyiv. The suspects included Ukrainians and citizens of other countries.
This was reported by the Communication Department of the National Police, Censor.NET informs.
"The police documented the activities of a group that 'specialised' in house burglaries. Its leader was a 58-year-old man who had previously been convicted several times, including for robberies of private homes in different regions of Ukraine.
Having close ties with criminals, the organiser of the criminal group enlisted the support of another resident of the capital and recruited a number of foreigners, some of whom are on the international wanted list for committing crimes in other countries.
The criminals carefully prepared before going on a "case": they collected information about potential victims and their daily routine, ensured secrecy measures, studied various opportunities for breaking into the premises and selling the stolen goods. They also examined the surrounding area, studied the location of street surveillance cameras and even installed their own in the entrances of potential victims to record their movements," the statement said.
The defendants met at the service station of one of the criminals to discuss criminal plans and share the information they had received.
The men were dressed as "pixels" and drove cars with forged licence plates, which were constantly being changed. During the inspection, they introduced themselves as fighters of a foreign legion and presented fake IDs with fictitious personal data.
The perpetrators include Ukrainians and citizens of other countries, including those previously convicted and on the international wanted list for premeditated murder in Russia and property crimes in Germany.
Law enforcement officers conducted 19 searches, seizing stolen jewellery, more than two dozen mobile phones, bank cards, trackers and other special equipment, documents, cars and draft records.
Law enforcement officers detained the organiser of the transnational group and three of its members. The detainees were served a notice of suspicion under Part 4 Art. 185 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Stealing). Two more accomplices were served suspicion notices in absentia. The materials for putting them on the wanted list are being prepared.
The court imposed on the offenders custody as a measure of restraint. The investigation is ongoing, the full range of persons involved in the illegal activity is being established.
They face up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
According to the prosecutor's office, these are citizens of Ukraine and Georgia.
