Ukraine launches counterattack to deter Russians

Recently, the Defence Forces have resumed limited counterattacks in several parts of the frontline to gain time and strengthen their positions.

According to Censor.NET, this was reported by Le Figaro.

It is noted that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are trying to regain the initiative in the Kursk region, as well as in the area of Toretsk and Pokrovsk.

The publication emphasises that in January, the enemy managed to capture 331 square kilometres, compared to 416 square kilometres in December, or 714 square kilometres in November.

"In recent weeks, Ukrainian forces have even launched localised counterattacks along the entire frontline.

In the Kursk region, the Ukrainian Armed Forces managed to advance 10 square kilometres south of Sudzha, taking control of two or three villages - Kolmakova, Cherkaska Konopelka and possibly Fanasiyivka. This eases the situation for Ukrainians on this section of the frontline, where the Russians were dangerously threatening their flanks as they approached Sudzha," analysts say.

They add that before the unlikely end of the war in the coming months, Ukraine is "trying to strengthen its positions as much as possible."

"The goal is to win time by creating tactical dilemmas for the Russians, so that they separate their efforts and cannot carry out their attacks at the pace that suits them," a military source said.

Over the past ten days, the Defence Forces have also resumed counterattacks north of Toretsk, all to prevent the Russians from announcing the occupation of the mining city. The military and DeepState refute the hasty statements of the Russian Defence Ministry.

In addition, the Russian offensive on Pokrovsk "stalled" for ten days. The Ukrainians launched several counterattacks, regaining strongholds in the three villages of Uspenivka, Kotlyne and Pishchane. In the latter, they even re-occupied, at least temporarily, coal mine No. 3, which was seized by the Russians in mid-December.

As a reminder, over the past 24 hours, on 9 February 2025, in the Kharkiv sector, the enemy unsuccessfully stormed the positions of our troops in Vovchansk.
