Maliuk detained traitor who worked in SSU and passed information to FSB. VIDEO&PHOTOS
The SSU has exposed a traitor in its ranks, who was detained in the morning by the head of the Service, Vasyl Maliuk.
This was reported by the press service of the SSU, Censor.NET informs.
The chief of staff of the SSU Anti-Terrorist Center was working for the enemy.
"Vasyl Maliuk said that the SSU documented 14 episodes of the 'rat's' illegal activities. The SSU Head personally was a member of the operational-investigative group that was developing the traitor and led the operation to detain him. Vasyl Maliuk directly reported on all stages of the special operation to the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy," the statement said.
Maliuk noted that it was a highly complex development and subsequent multi-stage implementation, during which the Service used all possible overt and covert forms and methods of our activities, as well as the entire possible palette of operational and technical measures.
"Using encrypted software bookmarks, we penetrated the traitor's gadgets - mobile terminals and computers. We actually lived with him, conducted audio and video monitoring. In the process of all this, we managed to qualitatively document the collection and transmission of relevant information by the traitor to the enemy," he said.
The SSU has been using the traitor to pass disinformation to the enemy for a long time, first as part of counterintelligence measures and later - as part of criminal proceedings.
The SSU will announce the details of this special operation in the near future.
Yurii Butusov, Editor-in-Chief of Censor.NET, stated that the case concerns Dmytro Koziura, a career SSU officer who had held positions granting access to top-secret information for over 20 years and had extensive contacts within the SSU.
"According to sources, Koziura worked in the personnel department of the SSU Academy for a long time in the early 2000s. He had full access to the personal files of all cadets, meaning that almost the entire SSU officer corps could have been compromised by Russian intelligence.
In 2016, Koziura was appointed Chief of Staff of the SSU’s Anti-Terrorist Center. His service in the central apparatus allowed him to gather information not only within his direct area of responsibility but also on other divisions," Butusov said.
The SSU later provided details of the operation.
The FSB tasked members of the agent network with collecting and transmitting defense-related information, focusing on data on Ukraine's awareness of the deployment and movement of enemy forces at the front.
The Russians were also interested in classified and proprietary information about the weapons of the Ukrainian Security and Defense Forces, the state of critical infrastructure, the results of enemy missile attacks on targets in Ukraine, information about the country's top military and political leadership, the operation of state registries after the December 2024 cyberattack, and other information that could be used to conduct subversive activities against Ukraine.
The materials also include the traitor's close relatives, including his father and mother, who justify Russian aggression, praise Putin, and, judging by audio intercepts, know about their son's work for the FSB.
The parents are to be notified of suspicion under Article 436-2 of the Criminal Code (justification of Russian aggression against Ukraine).
The detainee worked for Russia not only for ideological reasons but also for financial motives.
"According to the investigation, the traitor was recruited by the FSB in 2018 in Vienna. For a certain period, the suspect was "mothballed" by Russian handlers for security reasons and did not engage in active espionage. However, in late December last year, the FSB re-established contact with him, which was under the operational control of SSU internal security officers.
The SSU Internal Security Department, together with the SSU Main Investigation Department, uncovered a hidden channel of communication between the spy and the enemy intelligence service, organized through a Ukrainian citizen who had previously fled to Russia. According to confirmed intelligence, this individual was part of Andrii Kliuiev’s so-called headquarters during the Revolution of Dignity, served as an aide to one of the People`s Deputies from the now-banned Party of Regions, and played an active role in organizing the Anti-Maidan. Among other activities, he personally transported cash from Moscow, which was then distributed to participants of paid rallies. This individual is expected to be served a notice of suspicion for treason – both for complicity with an enemy agent and for separate episodes," the statement said.
The FSB handler, Yurii Shatalov, who coordinated the activities of the agent network, has also been identified.
"The 'rat' used a safe house in Kyiv to communicate with a resident of the enemy special service. He received a special cell phone, WiFi router and SIM card, which he used to covertly transmit information collected for the Russian Federal Security Service, including documents containing state secrets.
Currently, the investigation has a lot of indisputable evidence of the criminal activity of the defendants in the case. Among them are materials obtained in the course of complex operational and technical measures, interception of information transmitted to the enemy, audio and video, correspondence, etc.", the SSU added.
The detained official was served a notice of suspicion under Article 111 (high treason) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
