Restricting access for anti-Ukrainian foreign books is supported by domestic publishers.
Chairman of Verkhovna Rada's Freedom of Speech and Information Policy Committee Victoriia Siumar told journalists, Censor.NET reports referring to Ukrinform.
"This is a very serious protectionist measure that will first of all benefit Ukrainian publishers. We met with Ukrainian publishers and they fully support the move since the market is never empty. Obviously, those books that won't come from Russia will be substituted with Ukrainian books and authors," Siumar said.
She believes the restriction will foster the development of Ukrainian culture.
"The significance of the bill can not be underestimated. For the first time after three years of war, we start talking about keeping track of what we import from the aggressor state. These are the books with double-headed eagles about the Great Russia, you can find them anywhere..," the lawmaker added.
Earlier today, the parliament banned the import of Russian literature with anti-Ukrainian content.
