"During the air raid alert, the NGU mobile fire team moved to its position. In a short time, they received information about an approaching air target. The guardsman captured the target and fired from the Igla man-portable air defence system. As a result, he managed to shoot down an enemy X-55 cruise missile," the statement said.
Parts of the downed enemy missile were found on the territory of a settlement in one of the districts of the region. There is partial damage to civilian infrastructure.
However, thanks to the skilful work of the National Guard's mobile firing team, human casualties were avoided and another Russian cruise missile was turned into scrap metal.
As a reminder, on the night of 9 May, Russian invaders attacked the territory of Ukraine with sea- and air-launched cruise missiles.
Ukrainian Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Valeriy Zaluzhny noted that Ukrainian defenders destroyed 23 of the 25 cruise missiles. According to preliminary information, about fifteen enemy air targets were detected and destroyed in the airspace around Kyiv.
Earlier, the Kyiv City Military Administration reported that fragments of Russian missiles had fallen in two districts of the capital. According to the Kyiv CMA, all air targets in the Kyiv region were shot down. No hits were recorded. Debris damaged the roof of a house. In turn, Andriy Nebytov, the head of the National Police in the Kyiv region, published a photo of the wreckage of enemy missiles shot down in the Kyiv region.
It was also reported that a missile attack was recorded in the Cherkasy region. In addition, it was reported that Russians had shelled 19 frontline settlements in the Zaporizhzhia region over the past day.
In the evening of 8 May, the Russian military launched a massive missile attack on Kharkiv district of the region and hit an industrial enterprise in Kramatorsk with missiles.
