Today is the third day of hearings at the International Court of Justice in The Hague. Throughout the day, 32 states have been speaking in support of Ukraine at the hearings on Russia’s violation of the Convention on the Prohibition of Genocide.

Censor.NET reports this with reference to Ukrinform.

This includes 26 European Union member states, except Hungary, as well as Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Norway, Liechtenstein and the United Kingdom.

This is an unprecedented number of countries participating in the process.

Germany was the first to speak in court, followed by Australia, and the third was a representative of a group of countries, namely Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Liechtenstein, with the position of Belgium, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Romania and Sweden jointly presented.

Then Bulgaria spoke. After that, Canada and the Netherlands took the floor.

In their interventions, the countries presented their views on the case and cited the articles of the Convention directly relevant to Ukraine's claim. Some representatives also stressed that they had joined the case as parties to the Convention.

As reported, the International Court of Justice in The Hague is holding public hearings on Russia's preliminary objections to the charges of genocide under the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.

The case concerns the interpretation, application and implementation of the 1948 Convention. In the lawsuit, Ukraine, in particular, demands that the aggressor be held accountable for distorting the concept of genocide.

Ukraine was supported by 32 countries that joined the cause.

The court will hold a hearing on jurisdiction, and if it finds that the claim is fully or partially admissible, the next step is to consider the merits of the case.
