Poland will begin construction of the Eastern Shield fortifications not only on the border with Russia and Belarus, but also on the border with Ukraine.

This was stated by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk during a visit to the first section of the fortifications, Censor.NET reports, citing Polskie Radio and TVN24.

According to him, thanks to the construction of the Eastern Shield, the Warmia and Mazury, Podlaskie, Lubelskie and Podkarpackie voivodeships, which are located on the Polish border, will become safer.

At the same time, he stressed that there would be no forced displacement of people.

According to Tusk, "the better the Polish border is protected, the less accessible it is to those who would have bad intentions".

Everything we are doing here, as well as on the border with Belarus and Ukraine, is aimed at deterring and scaring away the possible aggressor, so this is really an investment in peace. We will spend billions of zlotys on this, but now the whole of Europe is watching with great pleasure and will support these investments and our activities if necessary. Our activities will also concern the security of the border with Ukraine - for other reasons, but we want Poles to feel safer along the entire length of the eastern border," the Polish Prime Minister added.

As a reminder, Eastern Shield is a project of the Polish Ministry of Defence and the General Staff.

In 2022, Poland built a 5.5-metre-high, 186-km-long fence on its border with Belarus and installed a modern electronic monitoring system.
