Zelenskyy congratulates soldiers of 65th Separate Mechanised Brigade on Land Forces Day and presents awards for defence of Zaporizhzhia. PHOTOS
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited the frontline command post of the 65th separate mechanised brigade, which ensures the defence of Zaporizhzhia against Russian aggression.
This was reported by the press service of the Presidential Office, according to Censor.NET.
In the course of the visit, the President heard a report by Brigade Commander Volodymyr Izbash on the current situation in the area of responsibility of the brigade and the organisation of defence in the strategically important area.
"I want to thank you on behalf of all of us for defending our country. I can only wish you health and endurance. Thank you for holding back the enemy. Thank you to your families and friends for supporting you," Zelenskyy said.
Noting the heroism of the servicemen, the President presented awards to four soldiers who had shown courage on the battlefield:
- Lieutenant Nazar Hrek received the "Cross of Military Merit" for rescuing 11 wounded under enemy fire and performing combat missions even after the evacuation of the wounded.
- Senior Sergeant Anatolii Demchuk - for successful reconnaissance and repulsion of enemy attacks, as well as for helping civilians trapped in the shelling.
- Captain Denys Nezhyvyi was awarded for organising the defence and rescuing 12 wounded soldiers during a counterattack in February, as well as for disrupting the occupiers' plans in Donetsk region.
- Staff Sergeant Andrii Mereshko was awarded for leading a group that repelled an enemy assault in Zaporizhzhia, killed 13 Russian soldiers and successfully evacuated the wounded during the battle.
