The State Bureau of Investigation uncovered a large-scale fuel theft scheme at a military unit in Lviv region. The criminals took at least 20 tonnes of fuel from the territory of the unit every month.
This was reported by the press service of the SBI, Censor.NET reports.
Scheme of a criminal transaction
As noted, it was organised by the acting head of the fuel and lubricants warehouse of this unit.
He involved the head of the fuel storage facility, two subordinate soldiers and a local resident who was involved in the sale of fuel.
On the instructions of the head of the warehouse, the soldiers poured the fuel into separate containers and took it off the territory of the unit to a private house. The local resident would then look for customers, sell the fuel, and divide the money earned among all the group members.
Suspicion of offenders and searches
The theft of fuel was documented from April to December this year. According to the investigation, at least 20 tonnes of fuel were taken from the territory of the unit every month.
SBI officers notified the organiser and four members of the group of suspicion of the theft of military property committed by an organised group under martial law (Art. 27(2), (5), Art. 410(4) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The sanction of the articles provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of 10 to 15 years.
Four suspects have already been imposed custody with the possibility of bail - UAH 1.5 million for two defendants and UAH 908 thousand for the others. The court imposed round-the-clock house arrest on another suspect.
SBI officers conducted 19 searches at the suspects' residences and in their cars. Money, over 5 tonnes of fuel, and documents confirming the illegal activity were seized.
The investigation is ongoing, other facts of illegal activity and the full range of people involved are being established, the press service added.
