Police are investigating the circumstances of an accident at a checkpoint in Odesa district, which injured four people, including a National Guard officer.

This was reported by Censor.NET with reference to the Communications Department of the National Police.

As noted, the accident occurred today, 17 December, around 5 o'clock on Starokyivska Road.

Police have preliminarily established that the 51-year-old driver of a "Ford" car collided with a "Honda" driven by a 21-year-old driver when the latter stopped ahead to show documents to a serviceman of the National Guard of Ukraine. The impact threw the "Ford" car to the side, causing it to hit the guardsman.

As a result of the road accident, the drivers of both vehicles, a 27-year-old passenger of the "Ford" driver and a 37-year-old serviceman of the NGU, were injured. They were taken to hospital with various injuries.

One of the drivers was drunk

The driver of the "Ford" showed signs of alcohol intoxication. Blood samples were taken from him and the driver of the "Honda" for testing. The results of the examination are expected later.

The investigative team of the Police Department No. 4 of the Odesa District Police Department No. 2 worked at the scene. Investigators registered the incident in the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations under Part 1 of Art. 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which qualifies as a violation of the rules of road safety or operation of transport by a person driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, drugs or other intoxicants or under the influence of medicines that reduce attention and reaction time, which caused the victim moderate bodily harm. The investigation is ongoing. All the circumstances of the incident are being established.
