In Odesa, law enforcement officers detained three men who organized the smuggling of draft evaders across the state border to unrecognized Transnistria.
This was reported by the Main Department of the National Police of Odesa Region, Censor.NET reports.
The deal involved a fee of $6,000 to $9,000 for crossing the border on foot. Two citizens from Dnipro paid $13,000 to escape.
Law enforcement officers detained the organizer of the scheme while receiving the money, and detained his two accomplices at their places of residence.
"Police officers, together with border guards and SSU officers, detained the organizer red-handed while he was receiving money from clients. Law enforcement officers detained two of his accomplices at their places of residence," the statement said.
The detainees are accused of violating criminal law by organizing the illegal transfer of persons across the border (Article 332(3) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The investigation said that they face up to nine years in prison.
The court imposed on the suspects a measure of restraint in the form of detention with the possibility of bail.
