During a Russian drone attack in central Kyiv on Wednesday, 1 January, an explosive wave damaged, among other things, the administrative buildings of the Ukrainian parliament, which house committees and departments of the Verkhovna Rada.

This was announced by the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk, Censor.NET reports.

"On 1 January this year, Russia launched a cynical attack on the centre of Kyiv. The attack on a residential building killed two civilians - the family of well-known Kyiv scientists Ihor Zyma and his wife Olesia Sokur. The leadership of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, its Secretariat and People`s Deputies express their deepest condolences to the families and friends," he wrote.

According to him, the blast wave damaged surrounding buildings, including the administrative buildings of the Verkhovna Rada.

Stefanchuk said that on Wednesday, law enforcement agencies and special services were on the scene and recorded the consequences of the attack. The damage is currently being assessed.

"Despite the damage, the relevant units of the VRU Secretariat are making every effort to promptly eliminate the consequences of the attack and ensure the uninterrupted work of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and its bodies," he added.

Russian attack on Kyiv on 1 January

As a reminder, on the morning of 1 January, Kyiv was attacked by enemy drones. Debris fell in two districts.

Hostile drones hit a residential building: two people were killed. 6 injured, including two pregnant women. The rescue operation was carried out in difficult conditions - stairwells collapsed.

The attack killed prominent neurobiologist Ihor Zyma and his wife, scientist Olesia Sokur.

The building of the National Union of Writers of Ukraine was also damaged.
