Law enforcers in Mykolaiv detained an 18-year-old arsonist from the Korabelnyi District Court who had set a fire on order. He faces up to 10 years in prison for his actions.
According to Censor.NET, this was reported by the Main Department of the National Police in Mykolaiv region.
"In Mykolaiv, police detained an 18-year-old arsonist of the administrative building of the district court. The defendant carried out an 'order' from a so-called curator. He faces up to 10 years in prison for his actions," the statement said.
Fire in the court building
According to the police, the fire in the administrative building of the court on Samoilovycha Street in Mykolaiv was reported in the evening of 5 January. The fire damaged one of the offices. The fire was promptly extinguished by rescuers.
At the scene, the police seized fragments of fire and other material evidence, which were sent for examination. The investigation established that the fire was caused by an intentional arson attack.
In the course of search operations, in particular by studying footage from a CCTV camera connected to the "Safe City" system, police identified the offender who had set fire to the court building. The man was detained in a rented apartment.
How did the attacker act?
As law enforcement officers established, the 18-year-old Mykolaiv resident acted on the order of the so-called curator. He had prepared the tools for the crime in advance - a hammer and a flammable mixture, chose a building and deliberately set it on fire.
He recorded all his actions on video and sent them to the "customer" as proof of the work performed and to receive a monetary reward.
During the authorised search, the SSU seized the offender's mobile phones, SIM cards and bank cards, which he used to communicate with the customer.
He was served a notice of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Intentional destruction or damage to property).
