The State Bureau of Investigation has detained a former Ukrainian serviceman who voluntarily swore allegiance to Russia after the occupation of Crimea in 2014.

As noted, after the start of the full-scale invasion, the man joined the 123rd Separate Motorised Rifle Brigade of the Russian Armed Forces and fought against Ukraine. In January 2025, during the fighting in the Donetsk sector, he was captured by Ukrainian defenders. All this time, his parents remained living in the Poltava region.

The former military officer was served a notice of suspicion of high treason (Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), and the court will choose a measure of restraint. He faces life imprisonment.
