Russia has begun equipping Gerbera decoy drones with destructive warheads weighing up to 5 kg. Previously, the Russians used such drones as a decoy to deplete Ukrainian air defences.
This is reported by the Defense Express portal, Censor.NET informs.
The publication writes that combat units have been found in downed Russian Gerbera drones, which are made of foam and used as decoys. The innovation of the Russian invaders was noticed on the Internet, where the relevant photos were published.
The photo showed a Gerbera drone with a 2.5kg high-explosive warhead inside. It is noted that this UAV can be equipped with warheads of various types weighing up to 5 kg.
The warhead is installed in the nose of the drone.
Defence Express notes that during the drone demonstration in July last year, the Russians demonstrated the possibility of equipping the drone with combat equipment and using it as a barrage munition. At the same time, the Russians were still planning to install a camera and communication system on the drone.
"At the same time, in a simpler version, the Gerbera can attack targets similar to the Shahed, that is, simply by using the coordinates stored in its memory. We should also not neglect the threat that the enemy may install self-destructive devices on combat units after a certain period of time or by other triggering circuits," the Defense Express noted.
