The Security Service of Ukraine prevented a terrorist attack in the centre of Rivne and detained two agents of the Russian security service who were preparing an explosion near the district police department.
This was reported by the press centre of the SSU, Censor.NET informs.
According to the case, the defendants were supposed to leave an improvised explosive device (IED) in a bag near the administrative building of the law enforcement agency.
At the time of planting the explosives, the occupiers planned to detonate them by calling a mobile phone connected to the IED.
At the same time, the attack was to take place when there were many law enforcement officers near the police unit, and the agents themselves would still be near the explosive device.
"In this way, the ruscists planned to kill the maximum number of police officers and ordinary citizens and at the same time eliminate the perpetrators of the terrorist attack as 'unnecessary' witnesses," the statement said.
The SSU officers exposed the Russian agents in advance and thus thwarted the criminal intentions of the occupiers. Both suspects were detained red-handed when they were trying to plant explosives near the district police department.
At the scene, a bag equipped with an IED and additional covert surveillance devices with remote access function for the Russian special services was seized from the detainees.
The defendants were two 19-year-olds who were looking for "quick" money on telegram channels.
After arriving in Rivne, they received the geolocation of the cache from the occupiers, from which they took the IED to commit the attack.
Based on the collected evidence, the SSU investigators plan to serve the detainees a notice of suspicion under Part 2 Article 15, Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (completed attempted terrorist act).
The offenders are in custody. They face up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
Earlier, the media reported, citing the SSU, that the Security Service of Ukraine detained two terrorists in Rivne region who were allegedly trying to bring explosives into a police building.
