A three-day training of chaplains, who will soon go to the anti-terrorist operation (ATO) area, is underway in Kyiv.
Theoretical classes are held in St. Michael's Golden-Domed Monastery, practical on Trukhaniv Island in Kyiv, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrainian Defense Ministry press service.
Chaplains study subjects related to the specifics of stay in the combat zone. In particular, the rules of conduct with local population, role of the clergy in civil-military relations in the combat zone, basics of psychological and psychiatric care in the field, historical analogies of Russia's aggression, and the like.
The first group will soon be sent to the ATO area. According to the rules established by the Holy Synod, the chaplains should stay in the ATO area for a month, while at a permanent duty station - for three months.
"Many chaplains stay in hot spots for a few months as they realize they are tragically needed. We are in good relationships with the Armed Forces of Ukraine, because we feel they are interested in chaplains, and accordingly the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff take efforts that our cooperation be at a high level," head of the Military Chaplains Department Metropolitan of Cherkasy and Chyhyryn Ioan stressed.

They are also studying the relevant legal acts of military chaplains in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in particular, the Code of Military Chaplain.
Moreover, they will study how to inure self-control and self-healing skills to personnel, render primary psychological care after a combat, and ensure social protection of war veterans. Before the rotation, the chaplains will be able to live in camp conditions on Trukhaniv Island.
