People died inside OP at beginning of full-scale invasion - Zelenskyy. VIDEO
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke about attempts to assassinate him at the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022.
He said this in an interview with The Guardian, Censor.NET reports.
"What did they (Russians - Ed.) come with this time? When they were near Kyiv, they surrounded Kyiv and occupied 50% of our country. They were issuing an ultimatum; it was similar to Minsk, but it was even tougher. They wanted to give an ultimatum that we would completely betray our national interests. That is all these words: denazification, demilitarization so that we would not have an army so that their pro-Russian people would run the state, a lot of things so that we would recognize and legally give up the territories, and so on. For Russian to be the official language," the president said.
Zelenskyy called such demands an even more radical version of the Minsk format.
"I said that this cannot happen because there is a violation of people's rights, the Constitution, a complete betrayal. We will not accept Putin's ultimatum. Everyone sent different messengers here. Many people came and said that tomorrow we would be occupied, that we had to run away, and so on. Many leaders called me and told me to leave. There was pressure from different sides, there were people who wanted to kill me, there were shots, and so on. Some people died here inside our office. There were other people who defended us, there was a landing. At the same time, there were ultimatums, calls from different people," the head of state said.
After the Defense Forces began to drive the Russian invaders out of the occupied territories, Zelenskyy said, Russia softened its ultimatums.
